Lesson #2: Quality Over Quantity *Friend Edition*

Another important lesson I learned before turning 30 is that having a few friends with deeper connections is far more fulfilling than having many with surface-level relationships.

Speaking of friends, some come, and some go. There's always a reason for their presence in your life—whether they stay or leave. The friends who stick around are worth investing time and effort into. These are the relationships that build strong bonds and provide mutual support.

On the other hand, friends who drift away also play a role. They teach us valuable lessons, even if their connections are not meant to last. It's essential to appreciate the lessons learned from those transient friendships and to move on without harboring regrets or harsh feelings.

Investing in deep, meaningful friendships has taught me the importance of quality over quantity. These relationships offer genuine support, understanding, and companionship. They are the ones who celebrate your successes, stand by you during tough times, and know the real you. They get to see the weird side of you—the one that starts talking in accents and tongues. In contrast, surface-level friendships may offer momentary joy but lack the depth and reliability needed for long-term fulfillment.

I'm still very close friends with some of my dear friends from growing up in Flagstaff, some from college, and I've developed some close friends in Jersey/NYC. These friendships have stood the test of time and distance and continue to be a significant part of my life. Maintaining these connections has paid off, as these friends are like family to me. Also I have an excuse to have an "adult field-trip" where I visit my friends in different areas of the country and don't need a permission slip signed.

Having a few friends with deep connections has enriched my life more than having a large circle of acquaintances ever could. Cherish the friends who stick around and invest in building strong, meaningful bonds.
