Lesson #23: Steal Like An Artist: Reloaded—The Re-UP

In a world full of ideas, it's important to remember that creativity often builds on what has come before. See my VERY 1st blog post for more.

Have you ever stopped to realize that no idea is truly original? The phrase' good artists copy, great artists, steal' captures this perfectly. Everything is in reference to something else—whether it's art, music, sports, or pop culture. Greatness often comes from taking inspiration from what already exists and putting your unique twist on it.

Think about it: Hamlet inspired The Lion King, Kobe was a carbon copy of MJ (Happy MAMBA day btw), and now the kids say 'Do it for the plot' instead of 'YOLO.' These references don't diminish the greatness of those who came later; instead, they show that creativity evolves through adaptation. Although some of these words that the kids are saying nowadays is....interesting?

This concept isn't about stealing in a negative sense. It's about using the brilliance of others to spark your own creativity. When we take ideas and make them our own, we contribute to the culture and push it forward.

So when you feel stuck or uninspired, remember this: take something that moves you and put your spin on it. It's how the greatest artists, thinkers, and creators have always worked. The masters of today admired the masters of the past.

Remember, you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Great ideas are already out there—use them as your foundation, build on them, and make them your own. This is the essence of creativity that has shaped the world we live in.

What's something that inspires your creativity? Is there an artist, musician, or even a film that has sparked your ideas? Let's talk about it in the comments bebs.
